Intrinsic unsharpness and approximate repeatability of quantum measurements

Teiko Heinonen obtained his PhD at University of Turku, Finland, in January 2006. In autumn 2006, he has been a visitor in Universita di Genova. Teiko Heinonen is interested in quantum measurements and currently his reasearch is related to the
mathematical structure and properties of quantum
observables and instruments.

  The intrinsic unsharpness of a quantum observable is studied by introducing the notion of resolution width. This quantification of accuracy is shown to be closely connected with the possibility of making approximately repeatable measurements. The intrinsic unsharpness and approximate repeatability of position and momentum measurements are discussed in detail.
